Postscript: Presque Isle 4

Savings N Loan got just up at the wire, showing some improved stamina under Scott Spieth.  He paid $5.60.  It wasn’t a terribly impressive or fast race, with very few horses moving forward. He stayed on in the stretch and got his nose up in time.

Let’s take another look at our pre-race questions:

Is Tinturn Abbey ready to run today?

We didn’t find out as he clipped heels with Rage and Ruin and lost the rider.   He was relatively cold on the board.

Do Deverdoeu or Tampa Bay Blue improve?

Nope.  Tampa Bay Blue was never involved earning the dreaded “outrun” comment.  Deverdoeu ran near the back the entire time.

Are any of the first-time starters ready to run?

The toteboard indicated that Rage and Ruin and No Marbles were well-meant.  Rage and Ruin was a serious contender and lost a close photo for the win.

Does Delaware Devil take to the artificial surface?

Delaware Devil sure looked sharp, jumping out to 2 1/2 length lead at the second call. As he turned for home, I thought he might make it all the way around, especially with the addition of Lasix.  But he slowed just too much in the stretch and lost by a length.  He’ll probably be ready next time, especially with a drop  back to 5 1/2 furlongs.
